Fairground Reminiscence (2017)
- Set and prop design for a dance R&D
Fairground Reminiscence
Design, installation & props for an immersive dance piece & exhib
A collaboration with choreographer & director Adam Russell as part of his autobiographical dance piece; Fairground Reminiscence.
I designed installation pieces, props and lighting including highly mobile representations of goldfish stalls, candy floss clouds and hanging sweet trees. A small sharing took place in May 2017 as part of The Late Shows at Studio Six, Newcastle. This went on to be developed into a full production that toured the North East in 2019/2020. Audience feedback from the sharing:
'Amazing – An experience of all the senses. Performers bring the fairground to life. Set is creative, capturing the essence of the fairground, building on the culture of a family fairground. Well Done!’
‘Made me feel I was in a fairground indeed, giddy, joyful, even though I was just watching.’
“From Candy Floss Clouds to Peephole Cinema Boxes; audiences experienced a timeless impression of a fairground world, glimpsing and indulging in moments that they chose. Each design element was perfectly tailored to celebrate nostalgic memories of fairgrounds, whilst being playful, visually striking and inviting for audiences to explore.”
